Senior Cycle

The Senior Cycle curriculum at The High School is delivered in Forms 5 and 6 leading to a public examination for the Leaving Certificate awarded by the State Examination Commission. All pupils study English, Irish, and Mathematics; four further subjects should be chosen.  In doing so pupils are requested to choose their top six options (from which four subjects will be allocated) from the following list of subjects:

Accounting

Agricultural Science

Applied Maths

Art

Biology

Business

Chemistry

Classical Studies

Construction Studies

Design  & Communication Graphics

Economics

French

Geography

German

History

Home Economics

Music

Physical Education

Physics

Politics & Society

Religious Education

Spanish

It should be noted that pupils may not receive their top four choices.  However, it is likely that four of the top six choices will be available.  In the event that too few pupils choose a subject for the class to be viable or if the subject cannot be timetabled, the school reserves the right to withdraw the subject.  If a class is too full the school reserves the right to use random selection.  However, the school will always endeavour to ensure that pupils' choices are accommodated as far as practicable.

You will find further information and advice about subject choice in the Senior Cycle curriculum booklet which is available on request - please contact office@highschool.ie for details.
